WELCOME TO  OUR CHURCH!

WELCOME TO OUR CHURCH

Why do we gather for worship? Why do we have preaching?
Why do we lift our hands? Why do we have altar calls?

1. Why gather for worship?
The word “church” in Greek is ekklesia, which literally means “those called to meet with God.”

We believe the church becomes real only when we gather to worship.

"For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20)

2. Why worship and praise with such fervor?

"With trumpets and the sound of the horn, shout joyfully before the LORD, the King." (Psalm 98:6)

"Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious." (Psalm 98:4)

"Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you upright in heart." (Psalm 32:11)

"And I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying: 'Hallelujah! Salvation, glory, and power belong to our God.'" (Revelation 19:1)

"And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters, and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, 'Hallelujah! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!'" (Revelation 19:6)

"And when he was drawing near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of disciples, rejoicing, began to praise God with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen." (Luke 19:37)

3. Why clap our hands?

"Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!" (Psalm 47:1)

4. Why have musical instruments?

"Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp. Praise him with timbrel and dance; praise him with stringed instruments and flutes. Praise him with loud cymbals; praise him with resounding cymbals." (Psalm 150:3-5)

5. Why lift our hands?

"Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven." (Lamentations 3:41)

"Because your mercy is better than life, my lips will praise you. I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands." (Psalm 63:3-4)

6. Why pray together out loud?

"And when they heard it, they lifted up their voice together to God, and said: 'Lord, you are the God who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them.'" (Acts 4:24)

We see the disciples coming together daily to pray in the temple. (Acts 3:1; 6:4)

At Pentecost, the church gathered and prayed for ten days until the Holy Spirit came; and when He did, it was accompanied by audible praise and prayer. (Acts 2:1-4)

7. Why speak in tongues?

"And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;" (Mark 16:17)

"And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." (Acts 2:4)

8. Why praise and pray in tongues?

"For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What then is it? I will pray with the spirit, but I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, but I will also sing with the understanding." (1 Corinthians 14:1-15)

9. Why have the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

"Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant… There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. To one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another, the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another, workings of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discernment of spirits; to another, varieties of tongues; to another, interpretation of tongues." (1 Corinthians 12:1, 4, 8-10)

*"And afterward I will pour out my Spirit on all people, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy…" (Joel 2:28)

"So, brothers, desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues." (1 Corinthians 14:39)

10. Why give an offering?

"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows." (Malachi 3:10)

"Honor the LORD with your wealth, and with the firstfruits of all your produce;" (Proverbs 3:9)

*"On the first day of the week, let each one of you lay something aside, as he may prosper…" (1 Corinthians 16:2)

11. Why have preaching?

"For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ be made void. For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who perish; but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God… it pleased God to save the believers through the foolishness of preaching." (1 Corinthians 1:17-18, 21)

"But in due times, he will show his word through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior;" (Titus 1:3)

"Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all patience and teaching." (2 Timothy 4:2)

12. Why have an altar call?

It was common in the Bible for people to make a public decision. Moses did this when he drew a line and called the people to choose a side. Joshua did the same when he declared, “Choose this day whom you will serve.” (Joshua 24:15)

Elijah required a whole nation to decide when fire fell and the prophets of the false god Baal were destroyed. Peter also required a decision on the day of Pentecost — 3,000 people stepped forward, surrendered their lives to Christ, were saved, and baptized.

"Therefore, whoever confesses me before men, I will also confess before my Father in heaven. But whoever denies me before men, I will also deny before my Father in heaven." (Matthew 10:32-33)

"He who conceals his sins does not prosper; but whoever confesses and forsakes them finds mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)

"Confess your faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." (James 5:16)
